We are all stuck at home for days at stretch now, owing to the Covid lockdown. Nonetheless, each one of us is getting restless and running out of things to do at home. With all the chaos going on in the world right now, there has never been a better time to lose yourself in a book, your best friend for life. So here I am with a list of must-reads during quarantine. These will keep you occupied, make you stay positive and will stimulate your mind too. Take a look.
A THEATRE FOR DREAMERS – POLLY SAMSON
A story that takes place on the sun-drenched Greek island of Hydra in the 1960s, where a young Leonard Cohen has fallen in with a crew of bohemians misbehaving long, into those lazy, hazy summer nights.
MY DARK VANESSA – KATE ELIZABETH RUSSELL
A book that follows Vanessa who, in her 30s, begins to look back on a relationship that she had with a teacher at her prestigious boarding school. The story talks about what really happened to her when she was an isolated 15-year-old teen. There’s plenty to talk about when it comes to My Dark Vanessa.
FIVE FEET APART – RACHEL LIPPINCOTT
A fictional novel where two teens fall in love. There’s a major complication here: they can’t get within five feet of each other without risking their lives – owing to their respective illnesses. A must read, indeed!
THREE HOURS – ROSAMUND LUPTON
A gripping thriller story where a school in a picturesque corner of England is in lockdown because of an active shooter, stalking the grounds. The teachers and headmaster have three hours to figure out why their school has been targeted, what the shooter wants and whether they can protect the lives of the hundreds of young students hiding inside the school buildings. Much recommended!
MISS AUSTEN – GILL HORNBY
A historical fiction that looks into the mystery of why a brace of letters written by the celebrated author were destroyed by her sister Cassandra shortly after her death. The book has perfectly captured Austen’s unique voice.
